Dr. Namgail was born and raised in Ladakh - he is the first Ladakhi to have a PhD in wildlife science. He also has a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Tromso, Norway, and PhD in Community Ecology from the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Subsequently, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in San Francisco and Las Vegas. Dr. Namgail has done pioneering ecological work on saving the very rare snow leopard. There aren't more than 7,000 snow leopards left in the world.
